European citizenship and language tests : Ideologies of competence
Organiser Ciliberti, Anna / White, Goodith
U per Stranieri di Perugia · Italy, Leeds U · UK
The symposium aims to explore and debate the differing approaches of a number of European countries towards the use of language tests for migration and citizenship purposes. We argue that such tests present a number of professional and ethical concerns for us as applied linguists, since they have profound effects on the lives of the test takers and serious consequences for the social structure of a country as a whole.
