Language acquisition in the context of individual and social multilingualism
Organiser Abendroth-Timmer, Dagmar / Bach, Gerhard / Haberzettl, Stefanie
(all U of Bremen · Germany)
As part of Europe’s incentive to promote the formation of transnational and intercultural identities in a diversified knowledge-based society, "plurilingual competence” has become a central factor in defining European citizenship. This directly impacts educational research and the practice of foreign and second language learning and instruction both inside and outside of formal schooling. Research and plannung need to address the interplay of individual and social multilingualism and transculturalism.
